Kaleidoscopes with a difference

Most of us, I'm sure, think of kaleidoscopes as simple children's toys,
which hold attention for some time, but usually end up in
the bottom of a cupboard somewhere....

....until they re-emerge from the dust some years later to questions of
'I wonder how that works', and comments like
'I've always liked them'.....

 

        The kaleidoscopes here are very different from the children's toys, but still convey the magic and wonder of the 'light tool' first designed in Scotland in 1816 by Sir David Brewster.
