We are told as if with absolute certainty where we came from, how we have changed, and how we have arrived at what we are today. It is true that by looking at history one can avoid repeating the mistakes of the past into the futre, but what were those mistakes and how accurately have they been reported to us in the present?
Communications provides an opportunity for us to understand the World more-broadly, and science in its various forms allows us to understand more of our past, the parameters surrounding our existence, and provides options for the future. Applying such learning without reference to the strengths and weaknesses of our past does not help us to move forward safely into the future, but rather limits our horizons to those driven by selfish survival-based motives.
Being able to understand that around 60,000 years ago mankind nearly ceased to exist due to natural action of our Earth should help us in putting our present existence into a more-valuable context. 60,000 years is only between 3,000 and 4,000 generations of Man, so very few significant differences should have appeared in that time, particularly since we are all descendants of the same few hundred souls who survived a global holocaust. It is particularly disappointing to examine the history of the last 2,000 years to see how much division and strife has existed in different parts of the world and that we seem to be continuing on this path, not having learned from our past.
'Bright New History' provides an opportunity to pause and to re-assess what is truly important from our past - to throw away indoctrination and bigoted-learning and to see the true importance of 'fellowship' before the next natural cataclysm threatens the survival of our genus.
