Web-site Design Principles...

A question that is asked increasingly frequently is "Why doesn't BrightNewDawn.com use better graphics with more of the dynamic features that are available?"

If the answer is not obvious given the ethic of BrightNewDawn then I shall explain:

BrightNewDawn aims to be as accessible as possible to the greatest number of visitors, and hence does not require the visitor to have access to anything more sophisticated than a baseline Mosaic web-browser that can deal with 'frames' and 'animated gifs'.  The decision not to use Javascript or anything else that requires an enhanced browser on the client machine was taken actively so as to support this basic design principle.  As more than 10% of 'hits' on BrightNewDawn come from browsers with only baseline capabilities (as at June 2003) the decision seems to have been justified.  Why should access to useful information be available only to those who can afford 'better' technology?  Why should useful information require the use of 'whizzy' presentation that restricts the audience that has access to it?
